Prefix: Ad-
Main Umbrella: Gender Modality

Gender(s): Transition or move toward a certain gender or gender presentation

Adgender is a gender modality for individuals who transition or move toward a certain gender or gender presentation, the prefix ad meaning toward.[1][2] It is an umbrella term for genders such as adfeminine, admasculine, and adneutral. Adgender is a slightly more inclusive version of terms like transfeminine and transmasculine as it includes individuals who may not be under the transgender umbrella.

Examples of individuals who may identify as adgender include:[1]

  • an AFAB bigender individual who has been on testosterone and now needs to do the same things as transfeminine individuals do to pass on days where they feel like a girl;
  • a male member of a plural system who has to dress up the body of their cisgender woman host when they front, in order to feel more like their male self;
  • a cisgender man with Kallmann syndrome who chooses to undergo testosterone replacement therapy;
  • an AFAB non-binary femme that feels as though they're transitioning into a different kind of femininity than the heteronormative role they were assigned at birth;
  • a butch woman who transitions but wants to avoid the connotations of transmasculine;
  • a female headmate in a system who, in world, is transfeminine whereas the host is an AFAB body;
  • an intersex individual who has undergone medical intervention but doesn't consider themself transgender;
  • a transgender woman may be adfeminine and transfeminine, because adfeminine is an umbrella term that transfeminine falls under.

History
