Joyfriend refers to a partner in a relationship who identifies as non-binary or are under the umbrella. Those who aren’t non-binary can still also use this term, if they feel that other descriptors don’t work for them.

History

The term was first coined by Twitter user ThatBoyYouLike on August 16, 2019.[1]

The joyfriend flag was designed by beyond-mogai-pride-flags on February 4th, 2020.[2]
