Gender(s): Any of the four cardinal directions

Compassgender is a xenogender identity for individuals that identify with the four cardinal directions, or with cardinal directions in general.[1][2] It is also an umbrella term for xenogenders related to any specific cardinal directions, that being north, south, west, and/or east.[1]

Possible Interpretations

Compassgender can be a gender that is:

  • affected by cardinal directions;[3]
  • related to the symbolism of cardinal directions and what they represent;[3]
  • connected to what direction an individual or thing is located or facing;[3]
  • changing directions from north to west, south to north, etc.[4]

History

On the 19th of February, 2017, an anonymous submission to ask-pride-color-schemes was published that referred to northgender, southgender, eastgender, and westgender as genders that had been coined at some point previously. That submission coined compassgenders as an umbrella term, compassfluid for identifying as multiple compassgenders, and also described several designs for flags they had discussed with other compassgender individuals.[2]
