Orientation: Aesthetic

Anaesthetic (shortened to nonae), also known as ansthetic[1], a-aesthetic[2] (shortened to aae), or nonaesthetic[2] (shortened to nonae) is an orientation defined by experiencing little to no aesthetic attraction, the prefix a- meaning not or lack of in Greek. The ansthetic spectrum (shortned to ae-spec or aespec) is an umbrella term for all ansthetic identities, or a term used by individuals who do not wish to identify themselves with any particular ansthetic microlabel.

Being ansthetic does not mean that one is unable to experience romantic or sexual attraction, but their attraction does not revolve around one's appearance.

History

One of the earliest known uses of the term "aesthetic attraction" was among asexuals in 2005 on the AVEN forums.[3][4] Since then, it has commonly been included in lists of subtypes of attraction. However, it is unknown when nonaesthetic attraction was coined.
