The term sanssexual and Sansromantic were coined on July 8, 2016 by an unknown via Pride-color-schemes.[1]
The alternate name, apartemsexual, was coined by an anonymous on July 31, 2019.[2]

The flag was created on July 8, 2016 by Pride-color-schemes. The color meanings are as follow:
- Blue fading to Pink: Attraction flowing between men and women.
- Yellow fading to Purple: Attraction flowing between nonbinary genders
